What is Motivation?

You’ve heard it asked by so many who are so lost when it comes to their weight loss journeys: What is Motivation? Various dictionaries practically have the same meaning.

Motivation

Motivation is one person’s or a group’s reason/s for acting or behaving in a certain manner. Synonyms include enthusiasm, determination and drive.

Based on that definition and in relation to losing weight and keeping fit, one’s motivation could be anything under the sun. There are women who want to look like that Kardashian model or some other thin ladies from the Victoria’s Secret fashion show line-up. There are men who want to look like Vin Diesel or some pumped up celebrity.

If that is your answer to the question ‘What is Motivation’ when you’re working out, no one has the right to say you’re wrong. Those may be shallow for some people. But if it works for you, then go ahead and make that your motivation.

There are those who make use of Science – specifically the Medical field with a bit of statistics – to motivate them.

For example, one of the top ten killers in the country today is Obesity. This, after all, causes heart problems like heart disease and Diabetes Type II. And those will hasten one’s death. If you don’t want to die in your 30s or 40s, then your answer to the question ‘What is Motivation’ for your exercise and diet could be to get rid of or avert Obesity.

Compared to aesthetics,

this is a better reason for actually doing something about the extra pounds in your belly and thighs. Then again, it really doesn’t matter.

Other people take Reese Witherspoon’s role in Legally Blonde seriously. Endorphins make you happy, she said in that film. And it is true. So if you’re feeling a bit down or just a tad under the weather for a week, a run around the park for fifteen minutes or so will pick your spirits up. And if you want to be happy every single day, go on and exercise every single day.

Personally speaking,

that is an amazing way to motivate yourself. If people see that happiness, that glow about you after you exercise, you will be inspiring others to do the same as well.

The point here is that the source of motivation for weight loss and fitness will differ from one person to another. Some may be trivial, others may be more profound. But if it works for you, then go for it.

The most important thing here is that you wake up in the morning with that motivation in mind. If it helps you to turn the snooze off, get up, wear your sneakers and run around the park at 5 AM, then that’s a good motivation.

The only difficult part

is finding that which will drive you to actually turn the snooze off, get up, wear your sneakers and run around the park at 5 AM. If you haven’t thought of it yet, go on and think about it.

Once you have an answer to the question ‘What is Motivation?’ you will be able to succeed in reaching any goals you have thought of.
