Healthy Ways to Start Your Day

For a lot of people out there, mornings can be rough. From just trying to wake up to preparing yourself for the day ahead, it can often feel like an impossible chore. Your morning sets the pace for the day, so it’s important to start it off right. If you’re not already in the habit of stretching as soon as you wake up, you might want to consider making it a part of your morning routine. Even though you might feel a little bit groggy after your alarm chirps you awake, stretching for at least 10 minutes will help warm up your muscles and joints, help increase circulation, and can be a peaceful and centering activity. To take it a step further, morning is a great time to do some yoga!

Drink Water

As we all know, our body needs water. After a good night’s sleep, your body needs to be rehydrated. It is recommended to drink 64 ounces of water a day, so beginning your morning with a cold glass of water is a great way to reach that goal. Water helps with your metabolism, skin and muscle health, as well as digestion so this is a step you don’t want to skip. For a little extra twist of flavor, add a bit of lemon!

Eat a Healthy Breakfast

We’ve all heard the phrase that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it’s true! The first meal of the day provides you with the energy and nutrients you need to power through your day, just be careful what you decide to eat (same with your other meals throughout the day). We know it can be tempting to pour yourself a bowl of sugary cereal or grab a donut, but this is not what your body is craving! Make sure to eat a well-balanced meal consisting of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, and some fruit. Healthy smoothies are another good option for those that prefer having their breakfast on the go!

Prepare for Your Day

As well as waking up your body, your mind needs to get ready for the day as well. When you rush through your morning routines and run out of the house to get to work without taking at least a few minutes to prepare your mind, it’s likely that you won’t feel ready for the day for a bit. Set aside some time to focus on positive things and mentally prepare yourself for the day’s activities.

Start Moving

The best way to start your day is, of course, to get your body moving! We know it can be a little bit difficult to find the motivation to exercise first thing in the morning, but we promise that it will be well worth it! Even taking a short walk outside before heading to work can give you a boost of endorphins that will last throughout your day. If you’re feeling extra healthy, why not pick out one of Jennifer Nicole Lee’s online workouts? When you start the morning with an exercise, you’ll feel energized and healthy throughout the day!

The main thing you need to remember is to just do it! Especially for those who aren’t morning people, it might be hard at first to switch up your morning routine, but once you get into the groove of things, you’ll realize how much better you feel throughout your day when you begin with a healthy morning!
